"Jiu Jitsu is a very simple thing. It is the people who complicate it." -Professor Rigan Machado
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu today is a world wide phenomenon. Rising out of obscurity in the early part of the 20th century it has become one of the most widely practiced martial arts. BJJ is recognized by its groundwork. Similar to wrestling and Judo, with it's objective to control the opponent on the ground and ultimately submit him.
While we recognize BJJ’s competitive path- our main focus in the CMD-BJJ Program is on the self-defense and health aspect of the art.
Rodney King, a BJJ Black Belt under world renowned BJJ Master Rigan Machado, has developed a BJJ based program, entitled Monkey-Jits, that focuses on developing somatic health, wellness and fitness. You will not find people in our program trying to show everyone how tough or good they think they are or getting off on dominating and beating people on the mat.
Monkey-Jits classes are still performance based, we roll and we still train for self-defense. More importantly though our Monkey-Jits classes are about playfullness, exuberance and first and foremost about having a great time while really learning something positive about your self and your body.
Monkey-Jits is a fantastic whole body workout. Rodney has used his unique qualification and experience in Somatic Education to bring about and design a new perspective in BJJ training as a movement education art.
Here are only a few of Monkey-Jits's many somatic health, wellness and fitness benefits:
